The film starts off with Chin Tien Yun (Chen Kuan Tai) attempting to fight the 3 Evil Masters (Wang Lung Wei, Chui Fat, and Yuen Fai), but he ends up getting wounded in the process. He seeks refuge at a kung fu school where hr befriends one of the students, Kao Chien (Yuen Tak). Kao Chien is always bullied by others students and decides to learn kung fu from Chin Tien Yun. While doing so, he ends up betraying his master at the school and is expelled. He later returns to the school to find out that it’s been taken over by the 3 Evil Masters. He also finds out that they’ve killed Chin Tien Yun, so Kao Chien plots his revenge.
And unlike some other kung fu comedies, I thought this was kinda funny at times. It certainly wasn’t hilarious, but I did chuckle here and there. The comedy wasn’t terribly annoying and I still enjoyed it. Lam Fai Wong and Chan Lau are intended to be comic relief, but the comic relief in kung fu movies are often loud and obnoxious instead of being funny. These characters are no exception. But still, there are some funny jokes (both intentional and unintentional) as well as some decent slapstick.
Chen Kuan Tai is one of the only characters to have a backstory, but even then, it’s talked about so briefly and it barely affects the story. As mentioned before, there’s also Lam Fai Wong as the quintessential comic-relief, but it sometimes seems like he’s trying too hard (as usual). But are the characters fun to watch? Well, yeah, but I think that’s only because they get to show a lot of skill in the fight scenes, but they're otherwise bland characters.
